South Padre Island, TX, June 15, 2026: Tropical weather will affect the Lower Texas Coast. The models continue to show heavy rain with moderate winds coming to South Padre Island as early as tonight through Wednesday.
The National Weather Service has predicted up to 6 to 8 inches of rain in total this week and winds are anticipated to be up to 20 miles per hour, with gusts up 35 to 40 miles per hour. This storm is expected to cause coastal flooding on South Padre Island. Community members are advised to use caution around areas prone to significant flooding during severe weather.
Tomorrow’s high tide at 8:10 a.m. coupled with the anticipated rainfall, which will significantly slow down the runoff drainage.
The tropical weather that is moving our way develops in stages and could intensify with little time to prepare.
Sandbags will be available today from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Public Works Workshop located at the corner of West Venus and Laguna Boulevard.
The site is “self-bagging,” meaning the bags and sand are provided for free, but residents and businesses will need to bring shovels and fill their own bags.
* Residents will be allowed five bags per property.
* Businesses will be allowed ten bags per property.
