Bored of Works

Meet Usman, our new project assistant. Usman joined us on December 2020assisting us with Bored of Worked and few other projects. Being a refugee himself and an ex-detainee, he understands what it is like to start a life sometimes against all odds. sometimes hope becomes just a mere shadow, a delusion. But he also knows that the only way is to move forward. The only way is to keep fighting and moving on. 

Once getting his refugee status in 2015, Usman since busy with many projects including raising his voice against indefinite detention and working with organisations in the refugee sector. He also started his own social enterprise  where they serve ethically sourced, fair-trade, organic coffee to local communities with a social mission of supporting and promoting refugee artists (both visual and performing) by organising different art events to celebrate the contribution of migrant and refugee art in UK society, hence breaking the false narratives. They also give barista training to refugees so that they can integrate in the UK society through the job market.  is currently trying to expand so that they can work towards their social goals more efficiently and regularly and they are looking for support from everyone with their Mayor of London Pay it Forward Fund. 🌪 This year we were confronted with a global pandemic, as well as political upheaval around the world. 2020 has been really difficult to say the least, but we also wanted to reflect on some of our achievements this whirlwhind year. We're a tiny organisation, but in 2020 we're proud to have set up two commissioning programmes, launched bored.of.works, put out our first release INTERMISSION MUSIC and welcomed two new members to the satellite family: Dhelia Snoussi and Usman Khalid.⁣
