Start with a good reference but know when to get rid of it. I recommend the book Drawing From Photos by Patrick J. Jones to help see what’s important and what’s not, when to rely on a reference and when to step away.
What are some of your best kept drawing secrets or books you recommend?
I almost didn’t have the design ready for this client 🫣
She sent me a reference that she liked and asked me to do it in ‘my style’. “What even is my style,” I asked myself. And so I went a little crazy on the first draft. BUT the next draft and the end result are stunning and I’m so happy with how this came together!
