As we close out this year, we want to pause and honor a dog who quietly shaped everything we believe about training, fear, and compassion.
Frankie’s story continues to guide our choices, our methods, and the way we show up for dogs and their people — even now. Frankie was deeply loved and supported by many skilled trainers and respected training companies across Portland, all working together with care and good intentions. While fear isn’t always something that can be fully resolved, the time we had with Frankie changed us forever. In just a few weeks, he taught us that fear and aggression aren’t things to be forced away — they’re experiences that deserve patience, space, and compassion. Because of Frankie, we train differently. We approach fearful dogs with more care, clearer boundaries, and deeper respect for what each individual can handle.
Because of him, many dogs after him were able to stay in their homes, and many people felt less alone navigating hard, emotional journeys with their dogs. Frankie may no longer be with us, but his legacy lives on—in our work, in our choices, and in how we show up every day for our fearful and shy dogs and their families.

Not all heroes wear capes… Some wear collars! This is Harris — a psychiatric service dog who supported one of our own (his handler), through the earliest and hardest chapters of recovery after surviving domestic violence, and being diagnosed with complex Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder (PTSD).
Not only did Harris help create a safe space in public when the world felt overwhelming, he offered grounding chin rests to interrupt dissociative episodes and bring safety back into the moment, even at those long days in court.
Because of his patient, quiet, and consistent work, Jessica was able to rebuild a sense of safety in the community, and today, she’s recovered, grounded, and living fully.
Harris has mostly hung up his service vest, stepping back into a well-earned retirement, but comes out occasionally for those rare, harder days when extra support is needed.
This is exactly why ongoing training and support for service dog teams matter. Service dogs don’t stop needing care just because the crisis has passed. Their foundations, public access skills, and emotional well-being deserve to be maintained with the same respect and intention that made them successful in the first place.
We’re honored to support service dog teams by helping keep their skills sharp, and their lives enriched alongside the people who rely on them.
If you’re navigating life with a working or semi-retired service dog, we’re here to support both of you.

Isn’t Ferris the CUTEST girl in the world? 🥺
She’s part of our pet-to-pet integration in the household service that we offer for both cats and dogs. Yes, that’s right - we’ll train your cat!
When a cat is in the presence of other animals such as dogs, sometimes the struggle is VERY REAL with overexcitement, fear, or reactivity, so what we do is focus on both sides so they can live happily in harmony together.
Shoot us a DM or head to our website to learn more!
