Meet the Oregon Origins Project VIII: Echoes of Eruption creative team!

Samuel is the founder and Artistic Director of push/FOLD and the Union PDX – Festival of Contemporary Dance. Their work integrates contemporary dance, original music, and somatic practice, shaped by synesthetic perception of sound and movement and a longstanding interest in negative space, athletic form, and dream states. Samuel’s works have been presented in festivals including the Dancing on the Edge Festival (Vancouver, BC) and the International Festival of Contemporary Dance (Mexico City). In 2023, they were named an Oregon Performing Arts Fellow by the Oregon Arts Commission. In addition to their artistic work, Samuel is an Osteopathic Manual Therapist specializing in pelvic health, movement re-education, and visceral, neural, and vascular manipulation. They serve the Portland arts community as a board member of the Multnomah County Cultural Coalition and work closely with fellow arts leaders through the Portland Arts Leaders Coalition and the PDXDance Coalition. Samuel regularly leads workshops on Arts Access at regional conferences and recently spoke at the national Association of Performing Arts Professionals (APAP) conference in New York City. Their advocacy and mentorship work centers service, equity, and collective leadership within the regional and national arts ecosystem.

Samuel has created a substantial new 30-minute dance snd music work for 𝗘𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 on Friday, June 26 at 7:30pm. This innovative and powerful work takes audiences inside the volcano, layering and folding bodies in a sculptural exploration of churning magma, with a musical soundscape evocative of the glassy textures of the Big Obsidian Flow.
