Sleep deprivation is a torture tactic.

So why do we expect our mamas, parents and caregivers to take care of a newborn with little to no support?

Single parenting, a partner who has no parental leave, not having friends or family locally...these are all reasons moms/parents are alone in the first few weeks and months of their babies life.

Join us in supporting our community with postpartum doula support this holiday season. ❤️

Most people have no idea what a postpartum doula really does.
So we asked ours to tell you.

In this short 3 minute video, Portland New Family Fund's doulas talk about what it means to care for someone after birth—how they show up, what families really need, and why this work is so urgent.

It’s tender, powerful, and worth every minute.
If you refer new parents, please watch it.
If you’ve ever wished someone had shown up for you—watch it.

This is what real support looks like.
And it shouldn’t be a luxury.

This is Sarah and her baby, Robyn. Portland New Family Fund, along with , had the honor of supporting her family by connecting her to medicaid birth doula support and funding her postpartum doula support, which medicaid does not cover.

To say this single mama is resilient does not do her justice. She arrived in Portland during her pregnancy with her two small children, knowing no one. Her midwife referred her to our program and we were thrilled to be able to provide doula services.

"This was by far my easiest postpartum experience. My body healed faster than it ever has after birth because I didn't have to move around so much. I had someone to help with chores, with my other kids and provide me emotional support. I felt bonded to my baby in a way I hadn't with my other two because I had someone helping me. All moms deserve this support after birth."
