A 30-second clarification can prevent a two-week misunderstanding.
Workplace conflict often starts in the gap between what someone says and what someone else assumes they meant.
An email feels curt. A comment lands badly. A decision seems unclear. A tone feels sharper than expected. It's easy to fill in the blanks.
But once we build a story, we often start responding to the story instead of the facts.
A useful habit is to pause and ask:
“Can I check how you meant that?”
“Here’s how I heard it — is that what you intended?”
“Can we clarify what was decided before we move forward?”
Small clarifications can prevent a lot of unnecessary friction.
Before reacting, slow down, check in, and ask yourself:
Am I responding to what was said, or to the story I’m telling myself about what was said?

Performance issues are not always about workload or capability. Sometimes a team is struggling because unresolved tension is getting in the way of how people work together.
Deadlines slip. Meetings get strained. Communication becomes shorter, less clear, or more avoidant. People may still be putting in effort, but collaboration starts to drag.
Those shifts are worth paying attention to. What looks like a performance problem may actually be a conflict problem.
Mediation can help teams address what’s happening beneath the surface, so they can clear the friction and get back to a more effective way of working.
What usually shows up first where you work: missed deadlines, strained meetings, or people starting to avoid one another?
