Bark

Bark is hitting the trail! Come join us on a hike on the Dog River trail on Mt Hood National Forest. We will discuss forest ecology, the importance of protecting public watersheds, the implications of HR655, and just enjoy spending some time in the woods together.

The trail is 7.5 miles out and back and rated as moderate. We may not do all 7.5 miles, depending on group pace and time spent discussing the landscape around us. We'll meet at the trailhead at 10am and aim to be back in our cars by 4pm.

Brought to you by , Bark, and Wild , Tree Fest features a curated selection of short films by Oregon filmmakers that explore how trees influence our daily lives, our histories, and our hopes for the future. Through stories of scientists, artists, and local communities, the films highlight both the beauty of forests and the responsibility we share in caring for them.

After the film screening, a panel of environmental professionals will talk about ways you can take action to protect our forests. And to finish out the evening, we’ll enjoy live music by Casey Neill and the Norway Rats!

Proceeds will support Bark’s work to protect Mt. Hood National Forest and also support future Tree Fest events organized by Oregon filmmakers to educate audiences and build our movement for forest defense. This is what a beaver habitat field day looks like!🦫 Field days are always an adventure. We hope you'll join Bark this summer to help us gather data to protect and restore Mt. Hood – no experience necessary!

"On April 23rd we trekked out to the Sluice Creek complex to assess some ponds. When we arrived at the first pond we immediately had to change into rubber boots if we hadn't already because there was a lot of mud and a shallow stream to wade through. The pond at this site wasn't very promising for potential beaver relocation – it was small and lacked the woody foods that beavers love.

"We hiked out further to Slide Creek, where we found a huge old beaver dam – about 95.8 meters long! We needed 4 people to measure it. This pond was more promising for future beaver relocation.

"We spent lots of time here admiring all of the newts floating around and watching birds while trying to keep our balance on the uneven, wet, and muddy terrain. This was the kind of mud that will take the boots right off your feet if you're not careful. At one point I lost my balance and fell backward into a shallow area of the pond. I learned a lesson that day – always bring an extra change of clothes!"
