Not far from the Acorn office some of our inspectors are hard at work on MaineDOT projects to resurface two of the major roads in downtown Portland – Commercial Street and Fore Street. Thankfully, these sunny days have been making the work go smoothly so we can keep things moving downtown.

Many of the MaineDOT roadway improvement projects underway this construction season are taking place at night to avoid the traffic and congestion of summer. Who says that good things don’t happen late at night?

Acorn has been at 16 Middle Street on the east end of Portland for a year and a half but now we are ready to make it official. There isn’t anything quite like seeing your name in lights for the first time -- next stop…Broadway!

Acorn has been collaborating with Community Housing of Maine, Dovetail Consulting, and Ryan Senatore Architecture on a 10 unit redevelopment in Skowhegan, which secured final planning board approval last month. The project transforms a long neglected plot with two abandoned apartment buildings into new, much needed housing along Waterville Road.

The redevelopment introduces 10 modern units supported by on site parking, internal pedestrian connections, and a stormwater retrofit featuring a new rain garden to treat runoff from the parking area.

The innovative housing project focuses on creating safe, stable homes within a service-enriched community setting. Through strong partnerships and thoughtful design, this project will help foster connection, stability, and opportunity for residents.
