Weir - ESCO Division

This week, on 26 May, 53 teammates returned to the place where, for many, their ESCO story began: the site of our original foundry in Xuzhou, China.

Led by Site Manager, Guangkuo Zhao, together they walked the campus, built in 2006 to serve the mining market, before lowering the company flag and closing the gate for the last time.

After 18 remarkable years at the site, 2024 marked the beginning of a new chapter with the opening of a new foundry a few kilometers away, where the team is thriving.

For those at Weir who have relocated and seen buildings come and go, one question remains: If the building walls could talk, what stories would they tell?

Reflected Guangkuo on their walk down memory lane, “We kept committed and worked together … but what’s more important is we made tremendous achievements together: we performed at the highest levels, served customers, embedded Weir’s culture of safety first, sustained our continuous improvement efforts and showed respect for our people.”

Colleagues were delighted to represent Weir at the Women in Mining USA Conference from 20-23 April in Tucson, Arizona. The 2026 theme, “Authentic Impact: Mining for Generations,” was a call to recognize those who came before us, while empowering future leaders. In addition to networking, the team was inspired by various professional development opportunities, seminars and meetings with industry peers.
