Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
Proverbs 17:28
Sketched on the train from Vienna to Salzburg while enduring the din of other passengers’ noisy, crinkly snacking customs.
Type inspired by a memorial plaque in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Salzburg.
A Note Concerning the Flattening of Thin Papers
Perhaps appropriately, the beautiful toned Fabriano paper I used for this drawing buckled heavily after suffering a torment of heavy washes. Flattening was achieved by misting the back of the paper and subjecting it to the weight of many books for several days. I also mounted some of the same paper onto discarded watercolor sheets using Yes! Glue, so we’ll see how that works in the near future. Anyway !

Thanks to the judges for the honor, thanks to for the approval and as always thanks to at for the creative direction and the assignment!

Failure Bowl MMXXV
So! I intended to be more experimental with my work last year (no pen and ink!), and sometimes I screwed up!
I hereby present these abandoned pieces that didn’t quite cut it for one reason or another.
I think of it like making threes - it’s tough! But you gotta keep shooting, and you’re doing alright if you’re averaging over 40%.
