A little story: a couple years ago, I received an order from someone for one of my Kim Jong Un candles. The name looked familiar, but I couldn’t place it. I packaged the candle and shipped it off. The next day it hit me… John Landis. That’s the name of the film director who among several other great movies, directed two of my favorites, “Spies Like Us”, and “Three Amigos”. Doubting it could be THE John Landis who ordered a candle I did a little detective work, and indeed it was him.

So the next day I sent John a few more candles as a gift, along with a short note to express my appreciation for his work, and to share how much my recently departed dad had loved his film “Animal House”, and how much I enjoyed watching it with him. About a week later to my surprise, I received a letter from John with a response to some of what I had written in my letter to him, and to thank me for the candles.

Over the last few years we’ve exchanged a number of letters and postcards… I sent him a Trump candle to burn on election night, which in his following letter he enthusiastically suggested that burning it was the reason Biden won. 😉

While I enjoy the creative satisfaction of creating these candles, and find the challenges of running a small side business exciting, one of the most rewarding experiences of this endeavor has been the people I’ve met, and the encouragement I’ve received from these them - like John Landis.
