Whole Crops is planning with USM and St. Joseph's College to bring student workers out to fields to harvest surplus crops and explore alternative supply chains. We want to work in an exploratory phase to not disrupt the existing market structures, while bringing more local products into the mainstream food system. With this pilot Whole Crops intends to uncover and shed light on the pressures that farmers face when planning production, document the reasons for loss, and explore new ways of using surplus to open up new reliable markets that commit to using our farms' whole crops.
