One of my favorite parts of being a ceramic artist is getting the chance to learn from the people who helped shape the field long before I came along.

I recently made the trip from Maine to Connecticut to spend an afternoon with Vicente Garcia , and it was an experience I won’t soon forget. Seeing his studio, hearing the stories behind decades of work, and exchanging ideas about Raku, firing techniques, and glaze chemistry reminded me that there’s always something new to learn, no matter how long you’ve been making pottery.

What I love most is that two artists can pursue the same goal using completely different methods. Both can arrive at beautiful results. Those conversations are where so much growth happens.

Vicente, thank you again for welcoming me into your studio. I truly appreciate your generosity, hospitality, and willingness to share your knowledge. I’m excited to see where future collaborations take us.
