CENTENNIAL SD 28J - TalentEd Hire 01/16/2024

Centennial School District is hiring for two (2) temporary School Social Workers (LICN 24-75, 76). These positions are temporary for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year. These positions are full-time but part-time work will be considered.

Job Purpose Statement/s: School Social Workers are an integral link between school, home, and community in helping
students achieve success. They work directly with students and families in order to determine barriers to attendance,
engagement, achievement and graduation. Within a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), they provide leadership
regarding mental health intervention, crisis management, and support services. School Social Workers also facilitate
community involvement in the schools while advocating for student success.

Experience Preferred: One year of supervised field experience, as verified by an approved institution, in social work,
school counseling, school psychology or one year of successful full-time service in a certificated position that requires
a school social worker license. Experience working with students who identify as LGBTQ2SIA+.

safeTALK Su***de Prevention Training – In-Person – Oregon City (CC) – Get Trained to Help 09/11/2023

When: September 26, 2023, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

Where: Clackamas County Development Services Building (150 Beavercreek Road, Oregon City)

What: safeTALK is an in-person 4-hour training that teaches “connector skills”, including recognizing warning signs, engaging a person with thoughts of su***de, and connecting them to an intervention resource for safety and further support. It is ideal for all types of service providers and community members, including first responders, teachers, youth workers, housing support, faith communities, parents/families, peer support workers, and community members interested in learning how to respond to su***de.

safeTALK is an internationally recognized program by SAMHSA and the Su***de Prevention Resource Center’s national registry of best practices. Anyone 15 or older is welcome to attend. More information about safeTALK can be found here: livingworks.net/safetalk.

Learning Objectives:

1) Explore attitudes that inhibit open talk about su***de

2) Recognize warning signs of a person who might be having thoughts of su***de

3) Engage in direct, open, and compassionate conversations about su***de

4) Learn a framework for how to effectively engage a person thinking about su***de

5) Identify strategies to connect a person with thoughts of su***de to supportive resources

Research tells us that at any given time, about 5% of the population in our country is experiencing thoughts of su***de which translates to over 16 million people. Su***de doesn’t discriminate and anyone can be at risk for su***de.

Do you know how to recognize if someone might be having thoughts of su***de? Do you know what to say if you do? safeTALK is for everyone who wants to learn how to recognize when someone might be thinking of su***de, talk with them to find out for sure, and connect them to help and resources.
Any one of us can learn to notice the signs of su***de, to approach and talk with someone needing help and connect them to help and resources.

That’s why it is so important that we all know what to look for, what to say and where to connect someone to. Su***de prevention is everyone’s business and safeTALK shows you how to help prevent su***de.
