Think of it, just two of these running between 2:00 and 5:00 on the MAX lines. Turnaround at Gateway, Washington Park, and Killingsworth.

A five dollar fare. Nice seats. A civilized conductor. Multivitamins, Odwallas, and little packs of cheese and crackers for sale. VERY washable floor and fixtures for the drunks who do distasteful things.

What would this do to late nights in Portland?

Too many of these are too true. But it would be much better to have some acknowledgement in it of the beauty of 3:00 am walks on silent streets, the sweet silly friendliness of clerks in all night stores when you've become one of the NON-crazy regulars, and the occasional chances to be one the first to see something or buy something or connect to something that goes live at midnight when all the normal people are asleep, distracted, or otherwise entirely off their game.
