Acid reflux considerations:

Acid reflux can be distressing. Often, a person with acid reflux will have a hiatal hernia (PMID: 21927653). This is where part of the stomach has become jammed up into the chest cavity. Sometimes other symptoms from a hiatal hernia will be much more prominent than acid reflux such as shortness of breath, chest pain, feeling one’s heart when they aren’t being super active (or have their hand over the heart area), coughing, anxiety, panic attacks, or shoulder pain (PMID: 21904483). It is always important to rule out a heart attack with these symptoms, but after that seeing a naturopathic doctor or physiotherapist to check the position of the stomach can be an important part of treatment (PMID: 28754753). In fact, hiatal hernias can contribute to the likelihood of a heart attack due to the inappropriate pressure they put on the heart (PMID: 32042843).

Luckily, in more cases of hiatal hernia, there is an external maneuver that doesn’t require sedation that can be used to move the stomach back down out of the chest cavity (PMID: 35936129). A large portion of my patients have benefited from this maneuver.

Things that can lead to or contribute to the stomach getting jammed into the chest cavity include coughing, vomiting, straining to go to the restroom, an impact to the abdomen (ex. Kick or falling into something), jarring impacts (ex. your foot impacting the floor while running, a car accident), lifting improperly, crunches, or a baby kicking it up there while a woman is pregnant.

There are foods & beverages that can make acid reflux more likely to happen by making the sphincter of the upper opening to the stomach loose. Some of the most common ones are caffeine, alcohol, tomatoes, mint, sugar, and simple carbohydrates.

Joint pain tips:

-Reducing simple carbohydrates & sugar over time helps to reduce joint pain though quick shifts from simple carbohydrates/sugar to another main energy source can lead to what is called the “Keto Flu” especially in people with less than 2 poops a day.
-For some, simply cutting the vegetables that are considered nightshades out of their diet significantly reduces their joint pain (ex. Tomatoes, eggplant, bell peppers, potatoes, ect).
-Protein in the diet helps people maintain/gain muscle around joints to help with circulation & stability of the joints.

-Consider the following treatment options:
*Acupuncture
*Cupping
*Manipulations/Adjustments
*Shockwave
*Growth factor injections
*Placental stem cell exosome injections. The white mist you see in this video is from the dry ice used to transport these messenger RNA filled exosomes so they can be defrosted just before use to ensure they remain intact. Adult stem cell exosomes hold the messenger RNA to tell the body how to make about 11 different growth factors while placental stem cell exosomes hold the messenger RNA to tell the body how to make about 33 different growth factors. That is a whole different way of healing.

Cupping helps to:

*Release myofascial restrictions to help with mobility, reduce the chance of pinched nerves, & help adjustments/manipulations that need to be done repetitively to stay.

I felt how I didn’t need to actively try to push out my upper abdomen after this treatment as my tissues no longer uncomfortably tried to suck under my ribcage like a vacuum was pulling them.

*Sometimes, people have blood stasis like when you see thin dark purple blood vessels on a person’s leg. This is just dried up blood that is getting in the way and causing dysfunction. Sometimes, we have that deeper in the body. In that case, cupping can bring it to the surface so the lymph system can move it out. There is a lot of this near my spinal surgery scar and by where I broke some ribs.

*Occasionally, there are toxic fluids that come up with cupping. A little fluid seeps out or sits under some dead skin layers till the body removes it. You can’t see if here, but I cupped over my sternum after this with some fluid coming up.

Cupping can be such a relieving therapy for people with pain &/or mobility issues.

I don’t tend to put this many cups on a person, but I know my body. Also, I gave myself a treatment with growth factors & exosomes recently. This lets me get a lot more aggressive therapy with a lot of positive change without feeling run down for a good period of time after.

Tips on Oxygenation & Healing:

*Optimal blood volume is required for proper healing. Ask yourself the following:
-Are you, your fingernails, or your under eyes pale?
-Are your hands or feet cool or cold easily?
-Do you tend to feel colder than the average healthy male?
-Are your menstrual flows heavy, more than 4 days total, making you tired, or making you feel lightheaded?

A “yes” to any of these should get you thinking about making an appointment to check if you need to work on blood volume. Full thyroid & hormones panels would be other great labs to run whether you are male or female as our hormones have such a drastic effect on our ability to heal.

*If you are low in blood volume or anemic (similar though different conditions), we’ll want to look at what you need to correct the blood volume issues (ex. iron, vitamin C, vitamin B12 that is methylated, and methylated folate).

*Nitric Oxide is something that the blood vessels see as a signal to dilate. Vegetables like beets help increase nitric oxide levels as can particular supplements like L-arginine. This tends to be beneficial for blood flow & healing.

Tools like shockwave can aid when the capillaries (tiny blood vessels) to regions of injury have started to disappear. Also, shockwave can help with conditions that may cut off the flow of these capillaries/vessels to the regions of injury.
