Post 1/2: The Oregon Vault
Today has been an absolute DREAM come true. I had the most esteemed pleasure of being part of a small tour happening at the (super secret) Oregon Historical Society lair... uh, vault. The tour was given by none other than the amazing Kerry Tymchuk, Executive Director of OHS. I cannot begin to thank Kerry and team for this amazing opportunity and core memory moment. And I would be remiss if I didn't thank my friends at the Portland State University Department of History Friends of History for extending me an invite. This will be a day I won't soon forget.
To say I was star-struck would be an understatement. I've only ever seen Kerry during the Hatfield Lecture Series from the upper and lower balconies of the Schnitz. It was truly magical to walk among history and listen to stories of various pieces told by Kerry, live and in person. I could've gone on listening and walking for days if they had permitted. To touch and feel and see, up close, some of what makes the work done by the Oregon Historical Society so incredibly special and so incredibly important - I'm still gobsmacked by the whole experience.
I have tried to capture what I learned about some of the pieces in the captions for each picture. I apologize, some information may be missing as I got enthralled by everything happening and would forget to write it down, forget what was said completely, or off admiring something beautiful while Kerry explained something else.
The photos really don't do this experience justice, but I hope you enjoy what little I could capture in the couple of hours we were there. Again, thank you OHS and Terry for this absolutely amazing experience.
*Since FB only allows 80 photos per post, and this was an incredible opportunity that I didn't want to lose, there will be 2 posts of photos with captions provided in each. Please bear with me, this process may take a few episodes of editing and applying captions before everything is completed. Thank you for your patience.
