as soon
as he was placed
in my arms
he was fused
into my being
and would forever be
his laughter
his pain
his running
his music
all that jazz
became my dna
no matter
his roots
he was
my child
for as long
as he breathed
and still further
after he returned
to God
time couldn’t dissolve
our bond
not one word
can shake
the memory

as you grew
we discovered
you carried
an enormous heart
developed
way beyond
the norm
that had this
amazing capacity
for loving
even extending kindness
to your enemies
you were the youngest
constantly proving
your ability
to coax smiles
from the serious
to find positives
where there were none
you gave your energy
your ears
to any who needed
your arms
surrounding
in powerful hugs
of you
it’s often been said
there never could be
or would be
a duplicate
happy birthday
my little firecracker
