I was actually planning to make a post about this… not just for myself, but for women in general, especially in my industry.
I hate that women often feel like they have to prove themselves every single week or risk being picked apart by people sitting on the couch behind a screen. Everyone seems to have an answer for why someone isn’t performing to the standards of the best athletes in the world.
So let me say this.
I choose to share a lot of the fun parts of my life. What most people don’t see is that if I posted what my day-to-day life actually looked like, some of these comments would probably disappear pretty quickly.
I keep a lot of things private because I’m not interested in posting my struggles for sympathy. I update people on my dad when I feel it’s appropriate, but unless you’ve spent your days acting as a 24/7 caregiver for a family member while trying to compete at a high level in your sport and managing a chronic back injury that’s followed you for years, maybe take a step back before telling someone what they should be doing better.
I’m allowed to enjoy my life.
I’m allowed to post the happy moments.
And just because I don’t post every workout, practice session, meeting, rehab appointment, or sacrifice doesn’t mean the work isn’t happening.
Social media is a highlight reel. Real life is what happens when the camera is off.
Before judging someone’s results, remember that you probably don’t know half of what they’re carrying.
