This year at the , presents an original cover design by Larry Rivers for The Collected Poems of Frank O’Hara - featuring a portrait of O’Hara drawn from a photograph by Fred McDarrah - will be offered for sale. The image, notably depicting O’Hara n**e, proved immediately polarizing at the time of publication and was subsequently replaced, leaving the original artwork as a rare trace of a moment where artistic intimacy collided with the limits of public presentation.

The work is particularly charged given the relationship between Rivers and Frank O’Hara, who were not only collaborators but deeply intertwined personally and creatively within the New York School. Rivers later delivered O’Hara’s eulogy, and their exchange remains one of the defining intersections of art and literature in mid-century New York.

This piece and many other amazing highlights will be on view at the New York International Antiquarian Book Fair starting tomorrow through May 3!
