Fun fact: my first job was at an ice cream shop. So when The Shack invited me to serve ice cream to Sellwood Park visitors, I was all in.
Now, I’m not saying Keith Wilson and I were competing, but if there were a scoreboard, I’m pretty sure I won by at least seven cones.
Not that anyone was counting. Thanks for having me, The Shack at Sellwood Park, and congratulations on your first day of the summer season.

Happy Pride, Portland!

I’m usually quite aggressive during budget season, but this year I took a different approach.

My focus was on protecting the city’s financial standing, preserving the core services Portlanders rely on, and maintaining the public safety and livability programs that are making a difference in our community.

This week has been filled with Rose Festival events and welcoming the Navy to Portland during Fleet Week. I had the privilege of speaking at a colors ceremony hosted by the Portland Rose Festival celebrating the restoration of the flag beside the Battleship Oregon Memorial in Waterfront Park.

I also attended the U.S. Navy Fleet Week welcome celebration to greet members of the Navy, Coast Guard, and officials from the Royal Canadian Navy. Portland is proud to host you, and we’re glad to have you in our city.

And next up: the Grand Floral Starlight Parade. Hope to see you out there tomorrow night.

Visiting Portland’s parks this summer made easy. Portland Parks & Recreation is offering free shuttle rides to the Oregon Zoo in Washington Park, Pittock Mansion, and three Forest Park trailheads.

From June 12 through August 22, you can catch a ride from the following locations:
• East Portland Community Center
• Gateway Transit Center
• Parkrose/Sumner Transit Center
• Peninsula Park Community Center
• Charles Jordan Community Center
• St. Johns Community Center

See you out there.

Sylvan Heights & Arlington Heights, hosting your neighborhood association meeting at the Hoyt Arboretum was a real treat. Thank you for having me.

I make it a point to attend as many neighborhood association meetings as I can. Having the opportunity to chat and connect with Portlanders is one of my favorite parts of the job.

Neighborhood associations are made up of people who genuinely care about their communities and put in the work every day to make them better. That work matters, and it will always have my support and gratitude.

When the Lan Su Chinese Garden invites you to tour their traditional botanical garden, you say yes. The garden features hundreds of plant species native to China, all surrounding a vivid green pond that will soon be filled with blooming lotus flowers.

Lan Su came to life through Portland’s sister-city relationship with Suzhou, China. Built by artisans from Suzhou, every detail—right down to every stone—was carefully sourced and brought from China to create the garden.

Today, more than 100,000 people visit each year, helping activate Old Town while offering Portlanders and visitors a truly unique cultural experience.

Thanks for having me, the tea was delicious.

This budget process has felt a lot like tower defense. I’m not willing to see Portland reduce shelter capacity, reduce trash pickup, reduce outreach services, and reduce overtime support all in the same year, as some of my colleagues have suggested.

Portland has made real progress over the last few years, and the Public Environment Management Office (PEMO) has been a major part of that success. PEMO must remain funded because it is one of the most effective tools we have for improving everyday life in Portland.
