The Multnomah Arts Center presents three new exhibitions in its Front & Center Galleries. A solo by Irina Belova, Contra Spem Spero (Against All Hope, I Hope), will be paired with a show by Pearlyn Tan, Becoming Feral, in the Center Gallery.
Both exhibitions will be on display May 22 – June 28, 2026. A joint reception will be held on Thursday, May 28th from 6-8 p.m.
Irina Belova is a self-taught fiber artist based in Portland, Oregon. She began her fiber practice in 2020, using felting techniques to create sculptural work out of wool, silk, h**p, flax, and bamboo. Inspired by the natural world, these shapes become metaphors for human experience. “They are deeply personal, shaped by my connection to Ukraine and by the collective struggle of my people. Yet they also speak to a universal truth that even in devastation, endurance emerges, quiet but unbroken.” 20% of the artist’s profit from exhibition sales will be donated to Aid Ukraine Now, a volunteer-run organization founded by Ukrainian Americans that provides direct support to Ukrainians.
The Front and Center Galleries are open Monday – Thursday 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Friday – Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The galleries are free and open to the public.
