For this special Biennial First Saturday, interdisciplinary artist Jaleesa Johnston activates her installation ๐๐ญ๐ฆ๐ข๐ณ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ with a performance titled ๐๐ข๐ช๐ต๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐จ๐ด๐ต ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ด. โ
โ
Created in reverence of Toni Morrisonโs Beloved, the work draws on the moment when Baby Suggs gathers the newly emancipated in a clearing to preach love of oneโs own flesh. Within the galleries of Oregon Contemporary, Johnston creates her own clearing, inviting us to return to our bodies and find love despite a world that may resist it.โ
โ
In addition to the Biennial, new exhibitions will open at our neighboring galleries, Well Well and Carnation Contemporary
