🌭 Wiener Week (City-wide)
This is peak "weird Portland" in the best way. It’s a week-long celebration where local chefs go wild with gourmet hot dogs. It's not just a Costco dog; we're talking artisanal toppings and neighborhood rivalries. Perfect for a food crawl through SE Division or Hawthorne.
🪕 Portland Folk Festival (Crystal Ballroom)
If you want the soul of the city, head to the historic Crystal Ballroom. It’s a three-day marathon of 30+ local and national folk/Americana artists. They’ve got local vendors and live art—it’s the ultimate "winter in a flannel" experience.
🏮 Studio Ghibli Film Festival (OMSI)
While OMSI can be touristy, their Ghibli festival is a local cult favorite. They’re screening classics like Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro. It’s a very cozy, rainy-day Portland move to grab a coffee and get lost in some hand-drawn magic.
🎨 Fine Print Fair (Portland Art Museum)
This one is a hidden gem because it’s actually free. You can browse (and buy) thousands of original prints ranging from Old Masters to contemporary local artists. It’s high-culture without the pretension, right in the South Park Blocks.
🥟 "Make Your Own Ramen" Workshop
If you want to skip the lines at the famous shops, there's a hands-on community workshop this weekend focused on noodle-making and broth mastery. It’s deep-dive local culture at its tastiest.
🍄 St. Johns Bridge & Cathedral Park
For a "slow" outdoor moment, skip the crowded Washington Park trails. Head to St. Johns, grab a latte at a neighborhood spot, and walk under the gothic arches of the bridge. It’s the most cinematic spot in the city and much quieter this time of year.
Pro Tip: If you’re heading to the Folk Festival, tag The Crystal Ballroom as your favorite place.
