How do I know which movers will treat my items with care, and protect them from damage?

Most glass, wood, and otherwise fragile or aesthetically damage-prone items are very easy to protect - from a professional mover's stand-point.

Ask the mover you're considering how he or she would protect some of your specific items. If the company and the person you are speaking with is competent, this should usually be an easy question.

It is important that all discipline and procedure must be understood and exemplified from the top-down. If the person you are speaking with on the phone for your estimate cannot explain how to protect one of your items, how should the movers they are sending be expected to know?

Of course, if assuming the best-case scenario, the person estimating may have never moved someone, while the movers on-the-job are experienced --- but this may raise an entirely different question about the accuracy of the estimate, based on the competency of the person providing it.
