🚨 Newsjacking vs News Hacking please note on some days i even get this wrong!!
Let’s clear something up:
Newsjacking = smart.
News hacking = shady.
Newsjacking is when a brand jumps into a trending story at the right moment with the right message.
It’s all about riding the wave of attention without hijacking the news cycle like a digital villain.
Take this KFC example: they inserted themselves into a trending moment perfectly.
🔹Relevant.
🔹On-brand.
🔹A little cheeky.
🔹zNo weird pivot, no forced joke, no cringe.
Just smart marketing that lands.
Now compare that to news hacking, which is all about manipulating headlines or spreading misinformation.
That’s not strategy, that’s sabotage. Don’t be that brand.
Pro tip: Your brand can be serious and play in the pop culture sandbox as long as it’s aligned.
