We continue to recognize our WWII veterans who are still with us with our next Veteran of Distinction event on Tuesday this week. Join us at noon at the Dover Town Hall as we recognize the service and dedication of 103-year-old Dover resident and WWII Army Nurse Corps veteran Second Lieutenant Helen Slocum-Mostachetti.

Earlier this week, County Executive Sue Serino was one of 5 panelists who selected the finalists for the Dutchess County Board of Elections’ "I Voted" sticker design contest. More than 50 submissions were designed by young people, ages 9–18, to encourage civic engagement and voter education. You can vote now at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GWWJBRM, and the winning sticker announced near the start of the school year. Congrats to each of the young artists who submitted designs!

The recent storm didn’t dampen our Dutchess County Office for the Aging's (OFA) picnic spirit! With the help of the Beacon City School District, the OFA pivoted and held its first-ever indoor picnic at Beacon High School. Some 200 older adults from southern Dutchess County registered for this week’s picnic, and today’s attendees enjoyed a free, nutritious lunch, as well as live music, dancing, and the chance to reconnect with old friends make new ones.

The second half of the OFA’s Summer Picnic Series kicks off next Wednesday at Stissing Mountain Jr./Sr. High School, and you can check out the remainder of the schedule at dutchessny.gov/ofapicnics.
