~If you have a heat pump, you should make sure that all of the snow and ice is cleared from the top, bottom, and the sides to prevent system malfunction.

~High Efficiency Gas Furnaces and Boilers have fresh air intakes that are usually outside and the snow and ice should be cleared from as well.

~Certain weather conditions cause heat pumps to ice up. It is normal for there to be light ice or frost on the coil. However, it is not normal for the entire unit to be encased in ice. (this could indicate serious damage)

~You should also make sure your air filters are clean and the proper kind. This is important to maintain the efficiency of your system as well.
