Powhatan County is a joint partner of the Goochland County Fire-Rescue Water Rescue Team, allowing us to cooperatively investigate this vehicle into the James River overnight. Thankfully the vehicle was unoccupied, so team members assisted the tow company removing it from the water. Personnel operated for approximately two hours.

Career and volunteer Powhatan members are currently assisting Chesterfield County Fire and EMS with a multi-acre brush fire off Moseley Road. Because of a number of overlapping incidents in Chesterfield, Powhatan E704 is also providing a station fill-in. Automatic-aid and mutual-aid provides all counties in the regional seamless help in times of need.

Chief David Johnston had the privilege of presenting newly-promoted Master Firefighter Tyler Cochran with his new helmet shield this morning. Tyler started as a 15-year-old member of Powhatan Jet (Junior Emergency Technician), followed by joining the Huguenot Volunteer Fire Department while in high school. Immediately after high school graduation, he landed a full time job in the fire service in the Shenandoah Valley. Tyler has been full time with Powhatan for almost four years, and was worked diligently to obtain his Master Firefighter promotion. He's a trusted mentor to our newly-hired members, and we look forward to his continued service to our citizens and visitors.

We want to thank everyone who was able to attend the ceremonial ribbon-cutting for Powhatan Volunteer Fire Department Company 1's newly expanded firehouse! This well-attended event allowed former and current members of the department, as well as members of the public, to tour our new facility. The addition and renovation included private bunks that allow for the health and safety of the members, a new meeting room with improved technology, an expanded office area, an upgraded kitchen, and three new full bathrooms. We extend our thanks to the Board of Supervisors and Powhatan County Facilities who made this entire project possible!
Our thanks to Kenneth Clouser for his photography!
Without our partners in the Powhatan Public Safety Communications Department, our jobs would be impossible! Please thank these heroes who answer your call, give us critical information, and remain the calm on the radio and phones in time of crisis.
