I help with what matters before you query or publish. https://susanpiersonediting.substack.com/subscribe/ You wrote the book. My editing is gentle but exacting.

“It is important to me that my stories exist in the way I want them to be read.”

When Chris first reached out to me, he was very clear.

He didn’t want his style changed.

He wasn’t looking for someone to smooth it out or make it sound more “standard.” The rhythm he’d built on the page mattered to him. He knew it was a little different. That was the point.

What he wanted was someone who wouldn’t come in and shred it.

It was my job to respect what he was doing without stripping away the voice that made it his.

That kind of care goes both ways.

Respect for the reader, yes, but just as much respect for the writer who put those words there in the first place.

I have some lovely news to share.

On March 14, I’ll be part of a local author event with 30 wonderful writers, and I’ll be there with my books.

There’s something special about stepping out from behind the desk and meeting readers in person, especially the kids, parents, and teachers these stories were written for.

If you’re nearby, I'd love to see you there.

Details are in the flyer, 😁 and I’ll share a reminder as we get closer. I’m simply grateful to be included in something that celebrates books and storytelling.

Pull up a chair ☕ for "Coffee Talk with Susan," my newsletter for fiction writers nearing the finish line with their manuscript.

You’re so close to done.
The commas, the little fixes, the tiny flow things.

That moment when you’ve typed “The End” and start wondering:

What the heck do I do now?

That’s the stage of writing I spend most of my time in—working with fiction writers whose manuscripts are nearly ready for querying or publication.

And it’s also why I started a newsletter called Coffee Talk with Susan.

It’s where I share what I notice in manuscripts at this stage—and the questions writers often ask when they’re preparing their book for agents or readers.

This ... fiction writers.

Every draft you write has weight—grief, joy, reckoning, healing. Editing isn’t about smoothing that out. It’s about shaping the container so it can carry it.

Not tidying. Not pleasing.
Holding.

That’s the work. And it matters.

That’s why it matters how your words land.

Not louder.
Not faster.
But more you.

Thoughtful editing isn’t about changing meaning—it’s about protecting it.

I write more about this on my website. See the link in my profile.
