Today is HCM Awareness Day—but what is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)?

HCM is a disease in which the heart muscle becomes thickened, or hypertrophied, which makes it harder for the heart to pump blood. HCM is a common genetic disorder that affects people regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, or geographic location.
