Rhode Island Kung Fu Club

We were happy to mark the country’s 250th by being in the Bristol Fourth of July Celebration, the nation’s oldest continuous celebration.

Thanks to the parade organizers who invited us & welcomed our lions. Their openness including lion dance shows the community there are different ways to celebrate and “do America”. And that citizens of any ethnicity/culture can have civic pride.

A big thanks to the hundreds of volunteers that worked the parade! We only talked with a handful of them- from the ones who assisted us in our line up, helped get us water, to the main organizing committee- but they all donate their time & energy to make the parade happen.

It was meaningful to be a part of Lion Dance Across America, a project that connected dozens of lion dance groups across the US participating in July 4th parades.

Even though orgs may have completely different pursuits or do different things, they can have one thing in common— having committed people & volunteers aiming to do positive things for the community.
