A powerful lesson in safety. Through live line demonstrations, our lineworkers help educate firefighters, police officers, construction workers, and others on how to safely work around power lines and electrical equipment. ⚡
This body cam footage from the Coventry Police Department shows just how dangerous downed wires can be — a single car drove over a live line and triggered a powerful explosion. We’re seeing an increase in cars hitting utility poles this summer – and it’s important to stay alert!
If you see a downed wire:
✅ Assume it’s live
✅ Stay at least 30 feet away (about the length of a school bus)
✅ Keep kids and pets away
✅ Avoid puddles and flooded areas nearby
✅ Call 911 or RIE at 1 855 743 1101
Stay alert, slow down, and keep your eyes on the road — your safety depends on it.

Ospreys love high perches, but utility poles aren’t always the safest place for them. Our crews installed deterrents in Jamestown to limit nesting space and help keep birds away from energized equipment. A small change that makes a big difference for wildlife safety.
As America celebrates 250 years, we’re honored to be part of Rhode Island’s past, present, and future!
Even in extreme heat, safety comes first.
