August is a a special month where bucks will be the most visible throughout the entire year. I always try to take advantage of learning where they are in late summer for 2 reasons. #1 being it gives me an area to branch off of and e scout and look around a circumference within a mile or so in each direction for the best bedding and fall food sources to relocate them when and if they disperse to their fall range,2/3 will. Some bucks may go further but I feel that’s dictated on region, doe density and hard boundaries lines. plus you’ve gained a ton of knowledge on the bucks that stayed put likely the bucks I’ll try to capitalize on first. #2 which I feel is most important does have transitioned from where they raised their fawns to where they’ll most likely be during breeding. It gives you an opportunity to go in and learn the spots bucks will cruise to access the doe group well before they show up. The second part of lesson 2 is every doe will come into heat each year within a few days of that date so learning the heat cycle of different doe groups will put you in high odd positions year after year. I call it the musical chairs of deer hunting. Mature Bucks have a destination during the rut dictated by a subconscious calendar they don’t just roam at random. So mark dates down you see things happen and plan to be there next year if you didn’t capitalize this year. You may just be surprised what you discovered.

One of my first steps and favorite non intrusive ways to finding bucks around areas I plan on hunting is a tank full of gas some glass and the coolest part of the day, sunrise
