Reach Out and Read Rhode Island

It was such a joy to listen to author Nikki Grimes read her picture book, A Cup of Quiet, at the Rhode Island Center for the Book Kids Read Across RI kick-off event yesterday. Be sure to check it out at your local Ocean State Libraries!

I has been an honor to work with the students this year. We have been inspired by their enthusiasm, creativity and their commitment to making shared reading part of their daily routine.
We finished off our monthly literacy series with a collage project inspired by one of our favorite local children's book creators, . Oge is pictured here reading her book, Saturday, at our Read and Play Every Day event at the Providence Children's Museum.

Thank you to Dr. Nelken at Jenks Park Pediatrics for sharing this picture of Jacqui, who loves the book, Ian's Walk, a story that helps children understand and appreciate the experiences of individuals with autism.
Sharing books like these during pediatric visits supports not only literacy development but also helps children build empathy and understanding of the world around them.
This book was provided through Reach Out and Read Rhode Island with support from a Title V grant from the Rhode Island Department of Health. Title V funding helps improve the health and well-being of mothers, infants, children and youth, including children with special health care needs.
Through this initiative, RORRI provides our pediatric practices with with high quality, developmentally books that reflect diverse experiences and promote inclusion.
