This beautiful big girl needs a special angel to heal her broken heart! Meet Muffin from Scituate RI Municipal Animal Shelter Volunteers, our newest “Josie’s Cat”. Muffin came to the shelter when her lifetime owner became ill and could no longer care for her. The adjustment has been very hard on her, and now her shelter friends are hoping to see her find love again.

Muffin is a white and brown tiger girl who is both as sweet as – and shaped as – her namesake. At 16 lbs, she likely gained a few extra pounds on her naturally larger frame during her shelter stay. Her future person will need to help her return to a healthier weight. Muffin is a senior at 10 years old and will need routine veterinary monitoring to check early tartar buildup on her teeth.

She is a gentle kitty who enjoys petting and attention from her inner circle of volunteers. When given time to decompress in the cat room, Muffin enjoys window gazing, surveilling the room from up high, and even chatting with her volunteer friends on occasion. She is simply depressed by her change in circumstances, and it keeps her from fully trusting and from showing well to potential adopters.

We can’t imagine how it must feel, going from life as an only cat with the person you love, to being left in a strange place full of unfamiliar people and other animals! Muffin spent her first weeks at Scituate wanting to simply hide in her cage away from all the scary new things. She has made progress, but continues to hide when overwhelmed, and it will likely take patience and routine for her to accept her new home.

Muffin’s ideal environment is a quiet home with a single person or retired couple. She thrives with daily consistency, which, unfortunately, the shelter cannot always provide. It’s likely that Muffin will be much happier away from all the noise and uncertainty of a busy shelter, and the lucky person who wins her heart will have a true companion!

Scituate Animal Shelter is located at 106 George Washington Highway, Clayville, RI, 02815, and open from Tuesday through Friday from 7:00am to 11:00am and Saturday from 10:00am – 3:00pm.
