Here are 5 ideas on how to love your newcomer neighbors this year:
1. Say hello and introduce yourself!
2. Give the gift of time. Get to know them and their interests, and share your own!
3. Have them over for dinner, invite them into your social circle, go to your kid's soccer games together, etc.!
4. Be curious about differences in culture, parenting, or religious practices and show appreciation for these differences, not judgment.
5. Encourage your kids to play with their kids.
Many refugees and immigrants come from cultures with strong communities and large social circles of support. They often face loneliness and isolation in their new country. Your efforts to show up for them respectfully and with a lot of kindness can go a long way in helping our newcomer friends find solid ground again.
