Understanding Sexuality, Gender, and Allyship - saving and improving the lives of LGBTQIA+ students Welcome to USGA Utah! USGA is a place of refuge.

06/05/2025

USGA (Understanding Sexuality, Gender, and Allyship) is a student-led organization that provides a safe and affirming space for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies in Utah. Our mission is to foster understanding through open, respectful, and honest conversations about gender, sexuality, and identity—always through an intersectional lens.

USGA is a place of refuge. We are guided by compassion, a commitment to listen deeply, and a belief in the inherent worth of every person. We do not tolerate harassment, antagonism, or the outing of anyone based on gender or sexuality. We ask our members to be mindful of USGA’s political neutrality, and to be respectful of differing opinions regarding BYU and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Reporting individuals on the basis of gender and/or sexuality to the Honor Code Office will not be tolerated. USGA will neither support nor oppose BYU’s Honor Code and/or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We do not align with or oppose any institution. Rather, we hold space for people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences. We welcome hard conversations, knowing that true allyship begins with the willingness to listen and the courage to grow.

We ask everyone in our space to respect each other’s names, pronouns, and boundaries. Please don’t make assumptions or pressure anyone to share more than they’re comfortable with.

While USGA is a supportive community, we’re students—not mental health professionals. If you’re struggling, we encourage you to reach out to resources like Flourish, Celebrate, CAPS, or others listed on our website.

If you’ve come to seek understanding, to be understood, and to belong—this is your place.
USGA welcomes you.

Dear USGA community,

USGA has always been a place of refuge. A space to be heard, to be seen, and to belong. A space built on compassion, honesty, and the belief that every person deserves dignity.
Today, we are entering a new chapter.

In response to the needs of this moment, USGA is expanding its reach. While we will continue to offer space and support for those at BYU, we recognize that LGBTQ+ students and allies across Utah are also in need of safe, affirming community. The need is real, and it is growing. We are here to meet it.

Over the next few weeks, you’ll see changes to our name, website, and social media to reflect this broader mission. These updates are not a shift in values, but a recommitment to them. USGA will remain student-led, rooted in care, and open to all who seek understanding and belonging.

Through every change, know this: we’re still here, and we’re not going anywhere. This work matters. You matter. And this space will continue to be here for you.

We ask for your continued support, your voice, and your presence. Help us carry this work forward. Help us keep this space alive.

This is still USGA — and this space will always be for you.
