Shaping Cricket, my puppy, to go into his kennel. This is our second session (each session no more than 3 minutes), and he already gets it. Smart, little guy! And SO freaking cute.
I used to think dog sports were about winning. They are not.
They are about learning to pick yourself up, dusting yourself off, and getting back out there when things go wrong.
They are about blood, sweat, and tears... literally.
They are about building a bond with your dog that stands strong amid all the mistakes we make as handlers.
They are about doing things that just last month you didn't think were possible.
They are about never giving up... on your dog or yourself.
They are about commitment and dedication... to training, to resources, to fitness.
And sometimes, the stars align and the training and connection come together, and you win.
But that is not why we step to the line. Every time we step to the line to play the game, we have already won in all the days, months, and years leading up to that moment.
