OSBI INVESTIGATES SUSPICIOUS DEATH IN LINDSAY

JULY 8, 2026

LINDSAY, OK – On July 7, 2026, the McClain County Sheriff’s Office requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to investigate a suspicious death.

Just after 1:00 p.m., McClain County dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call regarding a possible vehicle explosion near 194th Street and Wooten Way in Lindsay. When fire personnel arrived on scene, they located a vehicle on fire in the roadway.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and discovered an adult male deceased inside the vehicle. That individual was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the victim’s identification, as well as his cause and manner of death.

The cause of the vehicle fire and circumstances surrounding the victim’s death are still under investigation at this time.

PURCELL POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Purcell Police Department is currently investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 2700 block of North 9th Avenue on the evening of June 8, 2026.

Officers responded to a reported domestic disturbance involving family members. Upon arrival, officers located one deceased adult male at the residence. Preliminary information indicates the incident stemmed from a domestic altercation that escalated, resulting in the fatal shooting.

The scene remains active as investigators continue to gather evidence and conduct interviews. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Unit has been requested to assist with processing the scene.

At this time, investigators believe there is no ongoing threat to the public. Due to the active nature of the investigation, no additional information is being released.
