Another repeat customer. After refitting our customer's half-wall countertops with a beautiful live edge cherry slab, they decided that their kitchen table just did not look quite right. It was finished with heavy polyurethane and had several large scratches on it.
The solution was to start by removing all the old finishes. We accomplished this by running the tabletop through a 36-inch-wide belt sander. We then hand sanded it with 110, 220, and 320 grit paper. We then prepped the table and applied 2 coats of Rubio Mono Coat’s chocolate brown finish.
The results were amazing and saved them from having to buy a new table. It also pulled the entire space together as the live edge half wall countertop and table now match perfectly.

We built this incredibly unique table for a new client. He and his mother have traveled extensively throughout the world visiting some of the most remote beach communities. During their travels, they would often walk the beaches looking for shells to bring home.
This year my client's mother bought a new home on the Jersey Shore. They commission us to build a coffee table that would incorporate their shell collection. We chose this large 49” wide by 3” thick, Mango Cross Cut that had a huge hollow section. After pouting a one-inch layer of translucent diamond blue epoxy, our client laid out the shells exactly how they wanted them displayed.
We then poured another half-inch layer of crystal-clear epoxy. Then we placed some smaller shells in place so they would appear to be floating in the water. Then we taped off the edges with aluminum tape and filled the crosscut so that it became completely level. The table is then mounted to a platform that is recessed an inch and a half from the inside opening and will be fitted with a strip of LED lights. The lights will illuminate from both under the table and into the center of the table. We chose a strangler root to mount the table to which allows the light to shine throughout and enhances the table's natural beauty. All the wood came from 100% sustainable forest plantations in Costa Rica. I’ll include some more pictures of the completed table as soon as it’s set up in their new beach home.
