🚨 CHILD SERIOUSLY INJURED IN ALLENTOWN CROSSWALK CRASH; DRIVER CHARGED 🚨
A Tobyhanna man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he struck a child and her grandmother in a marked crosswalk in downtown Allentown before leaving the scene.
According to the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office, Tyler Allan Monzietti, 24, allegedly accelerated through an intersection at North 6th and West Hamilton streets on May 16, illegally crossed lanes, and struck both pedestrians who were crossing with the right of way.
Investigators say surveillance video showed Monzietti briefly getting out of his Jeep to check on the injured child before driving away. He later returned to the scene approximately 20 minutes later and identified himself to police.
The child suffered multiple facial fractures and had several teeth knocked out during the crash. Authorities credited an Allentown police officer with preserving the child's teeth by placing them in milk, allowing them to later be reattached.
The grandmother suffered abrasions to her hands, fingers, and knee.
Monzietti has been charged with Aggravated Assault by Vehicle and other related offenses. He surrendered to authorities Monday and was released pending future court appearances.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 30.
