A lot of people knew Sparky D through hip hop and the rumors that surrounded her. I knew my sister in real life.

We spent countless hours on the phone and sitting together, talking about life, our personal struggles, and the weight we both carried. We both knew what it felt like to give our blood, sweat, and tears to this culture, yet somehow be overlooked by an industry we helped build. We were loved by the culture of Hip Hop, but often too real for the business of rap.

My sister had been crying out for help for years, but too many people weren’t listening. Eventually, she turned her life over to The Most High. That’s where she found peace. That’s where she understood her true assignment.

Brothers like Brother Ron, MC Shan, and Herb Middleton knew her struggle. Sisters like Sha-Rock and Roxanne Shanté knew it too. They understood there was so much more to Sparky than what the public saw.

Now that she’s gone, I believe her assignment here is complete.

I pray her family, loved ones, and true friends find comfort and peace during this difficult time. As for me, I’ll carry my sister in my heart forever, along with the lessons she shared with me through our conversations, our laughter, and our struggles.
