A B-17 equipped with B-24 nose and tail turrets ... sounds like it could be an experimental modification.

All - Per U.S. Military regs, the ILNG can't support fundraisers in any official capacity but I told the event organizer I'd spread the word in my personal capacity. They are still looking for a Chaplain, Color Guard, and National Anthem singer. Can't have a Soldier or Airman support in uniform or in any duty status per the Joint Ethics Reg. But if there is a retiree interested in getting involved in some capacity I can provide the organizer's name and contact information.

June 14, 2008: The 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team’s Headquarters Headquarters Battery and B Battery of the 2nd Battalion, 122nd Field Artillery mobilize for service in Afghanistan. The 33rd IBCT deployment would be the largest single unit deployment of an Illinois National Guard unit since World War II. The 33rd IBCT and two units from the 404th Chemical Brigade numbered around 3,000 Soldiers and formed the bulk of Task Force Phoenix VIII, commanded by ILARNG Brig. Gen. Steven P. Huber. Among the unit’s many accomplishments was the training of 60,000 Afghan Soldiers and conducting more than 500 missions. Eighteen Illinois Army National Guard Soldiers would give their lives, half of Task Force Phoenix VII’s 36 American casualties. Two French, two Latvian, and three Afghan interpreters also gave their lives as part of the task force.
