🚨 New Appraisal Waivers Could Lower Homebuying Costs for Many Americans" 🚨
In a recent article from Inman, Matt Carter reveals that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are expanding their appraisal waiver programs. These programs allow homebuyers with less than 20 percent down to qualify for mortgages without traditional appraisals.
This move aims to streamline approvals and reduce costs, potentially saving borrowers billions in appraisal fees through automated valuation models. Under Freddie Mac’s Home Possible program, buyers with just 3 percent down can benefit from these changes! 📈
However, appraisal industry leaders, including The Appraisal Foundation and Appraisal Institute President Sandra Adomatis, have voiced concerns over potential risks to consumers and market stability. They caution that relying too heavily on waivers could lead to mistakes in valuations. The debate is heating up as the FHFA supports these changes with risk management controls.
