As someone who has assisted in treating heartworm positive dogs and fostered a senior dog with heartworms, this disease hits very close too home for me. Especially because it can be avoided. Heartworm prevention should be given monthly and year-round. Especially, in the states that stay a bit warmer in the winter because the mosquitoes that transmit the disease are active throughout the year. There are so many options available to keep your pets protected, take advantage of them!

For all those holiday puppy owners out there! I can’t emphasize enough the importance of socializing your puppy when it counts. Much like children, there’s a specific timeframe when we should expose our puppies/kittens to things in order to have them be functioning adults. This “Puppy Bingo” chart can be a helpful tool to ensure you’re pup is comfortable joining you in any situation!
