The holidays is not a medical reason for induction!! Every year around the holidays, inductions start popping up on schedules for reasons that have nothing to do with actual medical need. And most parents have no idea this is happening or that they can say no. Here’s the truth: ➡️Induction absolutely has a time and a place. ➡️There are medical situations where it’s the safest choice for you and baby. ➡️But “It’s Christmas week,” “We’ll be short-staffed,” or “Let’s avoid the holiday rush” are not medical reasons. Things you deserve to know before agreeing to induction: • It may increase your need for medications or interventions • It may increase your likelihood of a cesarean • Your Bishop Score matters (but many people aren’t told it) • You always have the right to ask whether the induction is medically necessary Elective induction is not automatically “bad”… but it should be an informed choice, not just a convenient scheduling decision. ✨ Our advice: Ask lots of questions. Here’s what the evidence shows: For healthy, low-risk birthing parents, multiple studies show no harm (and possibly benefits) from light eating or drinking during labor. Policies that say “you must have an IV” or “you can’t drink” often come from outdated concerns about aspiration, which are extremely rare now.
