VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Arts Healing Hearts is a Sandy relief art program for kids – they bring weekly projects into the neighborhoods hit hardest, completely free of charge to the families. They want to expand services to other towns, but right now they need volunteers for the Monday after-school program in Highlands, and the Saturday program in Union Beach. FEMA will pay for 90 percent of the cost of demolishing a house, hauling away the debris and dumping it in a landfill, said Ginger Rogan, deputy coordinator of Keansburg’s Office of Emergency Management.
While Keansburg, New Jersey is responsible for the balance, the municipality plans to pay for the bulk of its share through contributions from charities such as the Robin Hood Foundation, Holmdel Helps and RebuildRecover, Rogan said.

Keansburg, New Jersey developed its own demolition plan with assistance from the FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency, and sponsored in part by RebuildRecover and other relief organizations. The demolitions began today for 20 homes. Another 20 are slated for the second phase of the plan.
