Pinkster is the oldest black holiday in America, a Dutch Pentecost holy week transformed into a vibrant African celebration. Celebrated across the Hudson Valley throughout the 1700s, it was a time when the enslaved Africans of this region found joy and rest in the midst of unthinkable oppression and pain. Join TRANSART Inc. as we honor their resilience!

Saturday May 18th 1-3pm: Kickoff at Sojourner Truth Park Waterfront Pavillion. Calling in the ancestors with Dagara Elder Mama Lula Christopher, poetry recitation by Kate Hymes, Ulster County Poet Laureate, and a healing sound bath by Lisa Knowles of Partner to Heal.
 
Sunday May 19th:
Pentecost Service at the Old Dutch Church 10:30-11:30am: Special rest sermon by Tricia Hersey, founder of , historical remarks by Lavada Nahon, Sojourner Truth reenactment by Aixa Kendrick, and songs performed by .
 
Pinkster Walk 11:30am-12:00pm from the Old Dutch Church to the Senate House grounds led by the Pinkster Players
